Celebrating the Death Anniversary of the Mother of Orphans, Blessed Julia Rodzinska, OP

Today we celebrate the death anniversary of our Sister, Sr. Julia Rodzinska, who was beatified by Pope St. John Paul II, along with 108 other martyrs from Poland.

While on earth Blessed Julia suffered and experienced difficulties even before being captured in the concentration camp. An orphan herself, losing her parents from a very young age, she personally experienced being in want both materially and emotionally. But what she had was God who was her all.

Sister Edmunda Smieciuszewska writes of Blessed Julia:

"Sister Julia was a person of deep faith. This is how Iremember her from the ten-year period of our stay together. All her activitieswere conducted in trust in the Lord God. There were various difficulties inestablishing the home, but I never heard her complain. Sister was obedient to the Church. She lovedGod very much. She was very sensitive to the fate of orphans. So that thechildren would not feel inferior in relation to those who had a home, shedressed the children nicely. At that time, they did not differ from those fromeven the richest homes. She did everything to make them feel in the atmosphereof a family home. What distinguished Sister Julia was her ability to empathizewith the needs of other sisters, other people, and especially the abandoned. Herextensive educational and charitable activities towards the poorest are acharacteristic feature of her personality”.

And so Blessed Julia lived, inspiring all to the perfection of charity especially by her witness and example.

Let us pray that like Blessed Julia, we may be faithful to God's promptings in our hearts to be courage and to love uncounditionally no matter the cost.

Let us pray,
Loving God, you are the strength of those who put their trust in you. You have enabled Blessed Julia Rodzińska to give a testimony of the unshaken faith amidst injustice, hatred and human cruelty and thus made her a ray of hope and the living sign of your love. Through her intercession and example teach me how to draw strength from the sacrament of the Eucharist and from the prayer of the Rosary, so I may live in perfect union with you and give witness to my Christian calling through humble service of my neighbor. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen
